Is It Worth Spending on Teeth Whitening Strips?

It is common to find teeth whitening products at a local pharmacy. But the big question is, do these products really give the results that they claim? Teeth whitening products have evolved over the years, and it is okay to have doubts and questions in mind.

If you expect an accurate answer whether teeth whitening strips work or don’t, the answer is a ‘YES’. You try teeth whitening products, and they would give you a shade or two lighter than your current teeth condition. The result would last for a week or two, and then you would have to repeat the process.

Do whitening strips give as good a result as a dental procedure?

If you think you will get clean and white gums after using a whitening strip, the answer is a yes. But will it be as helpful as a dental whitening procedure? Then the answer is no. A dental procedure is definitely more expensive than buying a whitening strip, but it certainly gives you better results.

You can always go with a whitening strip if you want to attend an event and need whiter teeth instantly.

What does a teeth whitening strip do?

A whitening strip acts as bleach and removes stains from your teeth. The hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide in the strip reacts when it comes in contact with water and helps in removing stains.

The outer layer of your teeth, called the enamel, gets penetrated by hydrogen peroxide and enters the dental layer. Once it enters the dental layer, it attacks the two different stains and tries to remove them to give you clean and white teeth.

What causes pigmentation or stains on teeth?

Both internal and external factors are responsible for yellow teeth or stains. Therefore, in medical terms, stains can be divided into two categories. The two categories are extrinsic and intrinsic staining.

There are many reasons that can cause extrinsic stains. These are dependent on eating habits and other external factors. Suppose you smoke, consume alcohol or aerated beverages, eat sweet food, have multiple antibiotics, or are exposed to metals like copper and iron, you are more likely to have extrinsic stains on your teeth.

On the other hand, intrinsic stains are related to more internal factors. Such stains can be seen due to tooth development disorders, antibiotics, enamel erosion, excessive and intense fluoride, and genetics.

When can be the result of using a whitening strip?

With different types of strips and teeth whitening products, it is hard to predict how much time a product might take to show its results. However, any typical whitening strip will give you results in a few days. Some products might instruct you to use the strip twice a day for one week or more. The duration may vary depending on the ingredients and their effectiveness.

Things to remember while using a whitening strip

Excessive use of teeth whitening products might cause tooth sensitivity and gum irritation. However, if you maintain a gap between usage of teeth whitening products, it would gradually fade away. But always make sure that you follow the instructions carefully and do not overuse the product.

Whether you choose teeth whitening strips, gels, or powders, ensure to maintain a routine and follow the product’s guidelines to get a shade or two of lighter teeth. Flaunt your smile and wear your confidence to make your look complete.
