Our Story

Third Space Wellness was first dreamt up by Joy and Rachel, working professionals-turned acupuncturists, in grad school. We shared a desire for wellness to be done in a new and different way – not a specialty spa and not a sterile clinic – more of a modern wellness hub that becomes part of your weekly routine and modern lifestyle. We wanted to create a place where people come to receive services and are also empowered to play an active role in finding, improving, and maintaining their own well-being.

We carefully crafted our business plan, core values, and philosophy, the look and feel of our space, and considered what kind of people we wanted to be around every day. We recruited Sam, knowing she would be a solid third partner because she brings expertise in yoga to the table, an incredible online engagement presence, and a wicked sense of humor. Then we expanded to a walkable, accessible, fun, fresh location in Downtown Silver Spring location in April 2015.

When you come here, you will find out how perfect you already are – you will see yourself as whole and complete, you will easily meet other friendly faces, and will leave empowered about your wellbeing.

These are the two goals that weave together everything what we do: point people back to their own inner wisdom and connect folks with each other.

A bit more about each of us:

Joy AndrewsJoy Andrews

Joy is a ginger from Guatemala, is a podcast junkie, and is awesome at calling things like she sees them. She has a gift for saying “no”. Her acupuncture patients sometimes say they see angels during treatment.

Before becoming an acupuncturist, Joy spent over 13 years as a strategic communications professional with a background in advertising for multi-million dollar clients and marketing and development for nonprofits.

Inspired to merge her passion for communication with her personal experience of natural medicine, she switched careers in 2010 with the desire to help people unleash their inner wisdom. She earned her Master of Acupuncture from Maryland University of Integrative Health and is a certified Feng Shui Practitioner.

Rachel BrumbergerRachel Brumberger

Rachel is a Maryland local who hates crabs and Old Bay Seasoning. In her acupuncture practice, she rocks at asking questions that have her patients say, “Whoa! How did you know that?” In the treatment room she will often make you laugh even when you are getting poked.

Before shifting careers into Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Rachel spent more than 12 years working with nonprofit and education organizations in all aspects of strategic organizational planning.

Having experienced true wellness after receiving acupuncture herself, she made the leap in 2010 to make her life’s work helping people heal, and reminding them how amazing they are when they seem to have forgotten. She received her Master of Acupuncture, Oriental Medicine and Post-Master’s Certificate in Women’s Holistic Health from the Maryland University of Integrative Health.

Sam DublinSamantha (Sam) Dublin

Sam hails from Jersey by way of Las Vegas and the Philippines. She speaks fluent sarcasm and carries around a real B.S. meter. In her yoga and fitness classes she uses humor to instill a sense of empowerment (and sometimes fear); everyone leaves stronger, more flexible, more calm, and having had a few laughs.

She is a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance, a certified Spinning instructor, a Les Mills Body Flow instructor, and Primary Group Exercise instructor with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). She has also studied anatomy with Andrew McAuley, a mentor and teaching assistant to Shiva Rea. Her teaching style is inspired by a range of forms, from Hatha to Vinyasa to Yin to Restorative.

She also works full-time as a contract specialist with the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS).
